thanks much! seems I can get one or the other, but not both the clouds & the moon :/
it looks like I'll have to do several shots & merge them for more of an hdr effect to acheive what I really want.

These are really great pictures which I aspire to. Whenever we get a good moon I think I would love to capture it but I don't have the right kit - one day .................

Had a chance to shoot tonight a partial moon and by way of using the same settings found it to be completely black, high noise and nothing that was usable. ie M mode M focusing Av F8-11 and Sv @ 1/125s,are these setting valid or I have just stuffed up

I think you have an issue somewhere else unless you had only a crescent moon. Those settings should have had you in the ballpark at iso 100-200..

Yeah thats what it was both settings and a crescent moon but all was black
