Default Stopped in time.

This was an older attempt that followed the same principles used for the water drops.

That is getting the exposure to the point where there is NO contribution from the ambient light. Some cameras, this is easier than others. Some cameras, you simply can't do it if it's bright outside (shoot early/late or in the shade).

The idea is to use the flash only to freeze the subject.. Sometimes we just get lucky and it actually works.

This was shot with a D50 that can flash sync at ANY speed. I used 1/4000 sec at f8 to kill any contribution from outside light. Flash was an old sunpak 383 manual flash.
55mm micro nikkor (old manual lens from the 60's) shot at f8.

Default I've been trying this

Nice capture. I've been trying this out a little bit but with not as much luck as you. I've gotten a few flies but the bees are a little more difficult. I'm allergic so I guess my luck may remain at not being stung. Beautiful image... I really enjoy seeing it.
