Default paper peacock...

i thought i would try something new to me...

IMG_2103

i had seen paper shots on another site and thought i'd try my hand at it....

the execution is sloppy at best......i could have picked a better quality unlined notebook, had more than flashlights and a window for lighting, and given myself a more substantial framing to work with...but, folks this is it.....

the post was simple but dramatic......underexposed already, i adjusted the midpoint slider in levels to increase the contrast....in exposure, slid the gamma back to produce the vivid blues.....and then sharpened a smidge....

so, what do you think?.....and has anyone tried a paper shot before?

thanks...

Love paper shots. I've been thinking of doing some at some point (I think I have a list about a mile long of things I want to do after I get some free time in a few weeks). I've seen some of these before elsewhere, but darned if I can remember where Anyways, that aside... I like what you've done here. Did you try any different angles to get the lights and shadows inside of the paper? There's always next time of course I'm used to seeing them in black & white, so the bright blue looks really nice.

thanks, nicole...

i was looking at them this morning on a competing site, so i'm not sure if i can post it's link here....

i started out thinking of how to emulate one or two images while i was at the grocery store.....but, when i got home i didn't have half the luck or props i was certain i needed....so, the end product looks nothing like the vision i had in the dairy case.....

but, you're right....there's always next time....

I'm pretty sure there's no problem with posting the link I post links to other sites (including forums) all the time. Plus I'd love to see some more of those kind of shots

I honestly wouldn't be too hard on yourself about not having the right props or luck. You came away with at least one good shot, and a lot more learning than you had before that point.

PS, congrats on managing to read what I now think is a very confusing post of mine lol And seeing as I'm in such a strange mood today, I suddenly had a vision of a paper peacock peering out from behind the milk

Oh... thanks for the link I can see why you'd be inspired to play with paper.

And I will show something when I get around to playing with the paper. Should be sometime after the 19th (That's when my research project is due ).

Very creative! I like the use of color as well. How was it lit? Was there a specific website or challenge somewhere that got you thinking in this mode? This is the perfect answer to the statement, "I don't know what to photograph." Now you have me thinking as well. By the way, you should send this to Jay Leno on the "Tonight Show" (Sorry, Nicole, he probably isn't on TV in New Zealand). He is always ripping NBC (his parent network) so he may be able to have some fun with this as the replacement for the NBC peacock! 8-)

thanks, doc.....

you made me laugh because it was all about "so, what am i going to shoot today?"....my camera is the surest cure for boredom....

as i said before, i could have done a lot of things during staging to improve this shot and lighting is one of them.....the only light in the room was the kitchen window....it was a bright, but overcast day and the light that came in had a definite blue cast to it.....i heightened that by pulling down the gamma.....and now that i look at it, i went overboard with the tweak.....

if you want to see more well executed paper shots, go up a few posts and follow the address i provided for nicole....

thanks again...

Default paper shots

peeperita,

I really like the use of blue on black here. I too have played around with paper shot before. Hope you don't mind me posting one.
