Cool DVD + Water = Hours of Fun!

A Picture of many colours proclaims images of many Thoughts
A Picture of many colours proclaims images of many Thoughts on Flickr - Photo Sharing!

The shot above was done by placing a DVD flat on a standard piece of A4, then lighting it from above using a normal desk lamp. The shot had to be at just the right angle to catch the colours. I wet the DVD and managed to push the water droplets into some sort of order. No flash, tripod or any other fancy studio style equipment was used.

About this Shot
--------------------------
Camera: D90
Lens: 18-105mm VR kit lens
Camera Mode: Aperture Priority
Shutter Speed: 1/200
Aperture: f/7.1
ISO: 250
Tripod: No
Flash: No

Processing:
- 1 x RAW exposures
- Imported into Lightroom 2
- Cropped (the kit lens is pretty limited in terms of macro shots so I had to crop quite a bit)
- Temperature increased as the white balance wasn't quite correct
- Adjustment brush used to paint out the surrounding areas to black (exp -4 & brightness - 200)
- Adjustment brush used to brighten the edge of the CD (exp +0.20)
- Dust spot removal done on various blemishes
- Clarity, vibrance and blacks increased to really bring out the colours
- Saved out as Tiff and opened in Photoshop to resize and sharpen

i agree the 18-105VR 3.5-5.6 isn't a MACRO, but you've done well.

This is neat. Almost looks like an album cover! I'll have to give this a shot myself. Thanks for sharing not just the photo but the info as well!
