I am by no means a professional, and I could probably learn alot more from most of you than you can learn to me.
Being the resourceful youth that I am, I went from this: ![]() To This: ![]() With a flashlight. I use a Nikon D50 and don't own an external flash- and the automatic flash is very stale and hard. I avoid using it as I would avoid the plague. The colors in the first picture are flat and boring (not to mention totally out of focus and overexposed, but thats not the point) -- I found a flashlight laying around that had a very slight orange hue to it. I changed my WB to cloudy to bring out the orange, stopped down quite a bit and managed to hold the flashlight in my mouth and aim it just below his eyes while I awkwardly held the camera around the flashlight in my mouth. I put my elbows on the bed to brace myself and managed the second exposure with a Shutter Speed of 1/30! Go me! Just a reminder from a kid that you don't always need the greatest equipment to get great pictures. Don't be afriad to get creative! |

Not only is the photo great, but you have my favourite type of cat - a lovely, fluffy classic tabby.

You've done a great job here. I ought to try stuff like this too but I wouldn't even know where to start.

Hey! Great work, it is always a good thing to explore and try different things and angles to get a neat result. I find that my best shots are almost always the ones that I was not "looking" for, but rather stumbled upon. I too am just a teenager and I'm looking to make the step up from P&S to DSLR. Very nice work!
