Dani,

Thats so cool looking. And where do you buy glycerin? haha...

What lens were you using, that is such a narrow DOF...I don't know that my 50 1.8 can do that?

You can buy glycerin at the drug store -- it's cheap! And I used exactly that, my 50 mm 1.8, but with one of those screw-on macro filters. Also not really expensive; I bought a set of four on eBay for $15.

I've been trying to do this for awhile, but I can't seem to get my hole punch in the center of the paper. Any ideas? I don't have steady enough a hand to cut an object out free hand.

I do it in two steps. I cut a small square of paper and punch the shape out of it. Then I cut a fairly large circle out of cardboard, and cut a small square in the centre of it, just a bit smaller than the square I cut from the paper. Then I tape the paper square over the centre and seal up the edges. Ghetto, but it works!

Default Help!

I really want to do this but I tried it with a heart shape over my lens and I didn't get any results. I used lights in the background but I just wasnt successful
I only have my kit lens which only gets to f4.5 does this mean that it won;t work? Also Ivebeen using auto focus, should I switch to manual?

You really need a lens that opens wider. The aperture of your cut-out mask has got to be smaller than the aperture of the lens. What kind of bokeh do you get with your lens wide open? Can you still get the effect if you take the aperture two or three steps down?
