so sorry to hear that, steph.....cuz, i know how long i had to wait for my first blooms to come.....these plants are epiphites in nature....growing in the crotches of trees.....the less you dote on them the better they do.....

the first blooms i ever saw were of my neighbor's....she had it in a too small pot and just baking on the driveway.....i went home, gave it no water,no fertilizer, never again repotted it, and cussed it up one side and down the other till it budded for me..........

peep,

Cussing is a little-known and highly effective form of fertilizer in gardening, as long as you stay away from "blue streaks," which can wither leaves.

You raised a fine neglected plant specimen and got some wonderful portraits of it. Better than last year, yes. Great in any year.

Very nice shots! You say you were about 4 feet from the flowers, can you tell me the exif info? Very interested to see how the settings were made. You also have a very fine Flickr collection. Do I see some stock photos there as well?

no stock work...and to be honest with you, i'm not all that sure what stock means....the exif is as follows...

Exposure: 0.25 sec (1/4)
Aperture: f/18
Focal Length: 53 mm
ISO Speed: 100
Exposure Bias: -5/3 EV
Flash: Flash did not fire

i have yet to memorize settings, so basically what i did was set my camera to spot metering....keeping a bloom central in the frame and then bracketing my exposures down.....each shot is the best of four exposures....i knew in advance that i have a devil of a time clipping white things....

thanks...

Beautiful shots of beautiful flowers. Love the way you've isolated them.
