Cool light trails with a flash

I took this photo on a night with my friends. I didn't want it to just be a boring ol' classic flash photo, so I had the idea to use my bulb exposure for this with the on camera flash. By using the flash it freezes the frame from whatever was taken. Having a high ISO makes the image less sensitive to light, if the ISO were too high it would be a blown out grainy picture. By continuing to hold down the shutter (you must move the camera around, creating a design of light from your movements) it begins taking in little bits of other light, and it creates a cool effect of light trails. I held my shutter down for roughly 5 seconds or so. If you were to hold the shutter down for any longer you'd need to up your aperture or have an ND filter of some sort (next on my buy list).


So my settings went like this:

ISO 100
f/7.1
Bulb setting

This can be a very cool and fun effect on a setting that lacks some added flare. I took a bunch and found cool ways to add effects, like blowing the smoke into the upper frame as you can see....Have fun with this shot! Thanks for viewing!

thanks for pointing that out! Yes, i meant a low ISO means it's less sensitive to light.

And yes i did it for roughly 5 seconds. you can play with it and get a feel of how long to hold the shutter open.

well now this is quite interesting. I love how you captured the smoke in the upper left corner of the pic, really cool.
