Attempt at long exposure firework photo

I saw a recent post about long exposure firework photography by David J-
Unusual Long Exposure Firework Photographs by David Johnson | Colossal - and since i had some fireworks for halloween i thought i would give it a go.

I dont have a tripod so i set my XTi to Blub mode with my kit 75-300mm or 17-55mm (i cant remember) lens and was initially out of focus;

When i saw the star go up i held the shutter down and as it exploded i quickly focused the shot and got some very interesting results. I was able to get one shot that was like David's but i had a lot of unique results. I tried to keep the shutter open for 1-2 seconds

I was on a slight time crunch so the next time i try this i will have a tripod hopefully

I want to try some more. I need to find a place to light off the rest of my fireworks - left over from halloween
