![]() “Spirit of Youth” Oh to see through the eyes of a child again. . . I took this down by the beach in our little town of Pacific Grove, California. Among the giant cypress trees there’s a bronze statue of a little boy holding a toy boat and pointing at the horizon. There are only one or two days a year when the ocean mist hangs in the air like this and this was one of them. Long story short, I was walking through the park at sunset with my wife and kid when I got a very small glimpse of the potential here. It took several minutes and about 25 different shots to home in on the perfect spot. The problem was I only had my pocket point-and-shoot Pentax Optio-s camera and the battery was about dead. I seriously debated running up the hill to our house to get my Canon DSLR or Pentax 645, but knew that seconds mattered and I wouldn’t get another chance. As I kneeled down on the lawn to take this final shot, I knew it would be the photo of a lifetime. I looked around the park and nobody saw it but me. I had this special moment to myself and will never forget it. This is straight out of the camera with no Photoshop whatsoever done on it. 30 Personal Favorites - a set on Flickr Last edited by jrtce1; 02-29-2012 at 03:22 AM. |

What amazing light! Just goes to show that it isn't about the latest and greatest gear so much as the right place, right time, and something to capture the scene with.
