After Adriaen Coort , Dutch late 1600’s.
If you’re going to use open flame as in this shot may I suggest “light” denatured alcohol, like SLX. You want something to make a flame but you also want it to go out after closing the camera shutter, not burn on and on. The wood embers from the fireplace were cold and don’t really catch fire this way (with SLX). The ‘brasier’ terra-cotta pot is not kiln baked so it can’t stand a lot of heat anyway. No Flash used. f/20, 36 seconds, ISO 125 at 50mm. The tight aperture is to give the reflected starburst on the glass. That’s on purpose; it’s part of my ‘style’. The wooden sticks are meant to represent the way fire was transferred from the fire pot to the pipe in the 1600’s ; well before matches were invented (but that was in Europe, China had something like matches way before then.) The flame burned for most of the 36 seconds, I don’t blow this kind of flame out during the exposure because it is not bright like candle light. Light was brushed on the scene using a spotlight from left and right and also reflected off a mirror to highlight the beer glass. (Not a Dutch beer I know, but Belgium is not that far away.) Too much light on the asparagus, not enough on the raspberries; it's drawing attention out of the frame.
