Default Testing Nylon Stockings

f/20 , ISO 160, 50mm lens, 36 second exposure.

A test using nylon stocking over lens to blur the light from candles. After 10 seconds the nylons are removed from lens and then after 3 more seconds the candles are blown out. Then the rest of the exposure is with spotlight applied.

I cropped it and boosted the shadow setting slightly in Picassa. No other editing done. Notice how clear the other elements in the photo came out. It's the "light source" that blurs, ie candle flame.

Other ways to get the same type of photo, I'm sure. Try it your way and compare to this way.

Dont think the nylons did anything, tbh.

The nylons blurred the candle flame light. That was the point. To blur the light source without blurring the rest of the scene. This could be done in Photoshop or other edit but I was trying the nylon method.

The little starbright on the bottom edge of the crystal candle holder did not blur (it is tack sharp) which shows that the nylons were effective on the candle flame.

Just my opinion. I'd like to see other methods.

Don't know about blurring but definitely softened.
Nice effect.

The "blur" on the candle flames just looks like bloom and flare, the candle holders are NOT tack sharp.

Re-read what I wrote.

"The little star bright... is tack sharp." It happened after the nylon was removed and the spotlight was applied to the glass thus demonstrating that the nylons blurred the candle flame.
