Default Drink the potion

I was messing around with some dry ice as a concept for a photography competiotion. Since I had some left over I thought it would be cool to do some other shots with it. I also have some nice wine glasses that I picked up in Taiwan that look like something a witch would serve a potion in. So I thought I would make up my own potion and make it bubble and boil with subliming dry ice.

Canon 1D MKIV
EF F2.8L @ 90mm about 2.5 meteres away
1/160 @ F11
ISO100
1 x 580EXII behind the white backdrop @ about 1/8 (manual)
1 x 580EXII above at about 1/2 (manual) pointed directly at the cup with a Gary Fong Lightsphere cloud
Both flashes fired with PocketWizards
A little PP in lightroom to make the background white.

Fun with Dry Ice

I have some more on black backdrops that really show the smoke off.

Really great shot! Love the glasses, and the smoke is perfectly sharp...

Well done, thanks for sharing

I think you should try this again with a black backdrop. Not only would it match the mood of a witch's potion, but I think you might be able to see the smoke better.

I have both from the shoot...here is one on black.

This time I had one flash with snoot from the right on 1/8 and one flash from the left with a snoot on 1/2.

Oh...and my snoots are home made! One is black cardboard and the other is black craft foam with velcro that I attach to the flash with with a home made velcro strap (poor man's Honl system...although I do have some Honl bits too).

I like the black one much better. Has much more definition. Nicely done.

That black background of the glass picture is amazing The smoke layer was best emphasized.
