Under the Bridge
The following photo is a result of mixing 3 different exposures together. One frame at a normal level of exposure is mixed with an under-exposed frame and an over-exposed frame. To achieve this you can use the AEB (auto exposure bracketing) function found on most DSLR's. The outcome is a series of three images that combined produce a HDR (high dynamic range) image. Photoshop has a mildly pleasing built in preset that will do this for you but results are less than ideal. So for this picture I have used Photomatix. Let me know what you think and feel free to ask any questions.

Thanks for all the comments. I am glad you all like it. If there are any questions about how I took it, settings, etc ask away.
This was one of my first real attempts at HDR. I also took several other shots at this location. One in particular focuses on the bridge pylons of the second bridge whose reflections create a cross which I really liked. |

I don't know about Photomatix, and don't have Photoshop, but the HDR function in Corel PaintShop Pro leaves much to be desired as well. If I attempt an HDR image, I painstakingly select areas, copy and paste them in.
This is a good picture, by the way. Better than I'm able to achieve (I'm a novice). Is this how it appeared to your eye? I know that the color of some street lamps is yellow, but I was just wondering. The sky is jet black on one side of the bridge, and one can make out the stars streaking by on the other side. Having the light sources in the frame always presents a challenge to me. |

I think this is an awesome photo! And it really jumps out at you when you first see it! Upon closer inspection and after reading the comments I noticed the black sky on the one side and the lighter sky on the other which could probably be fixed quite easily. Also, I hadn't noticed the reflections of the pylons from the second bridge. They really do make a cross! Really cool! I'd be really keen to see that photo! Nice work! TFS!
