Default Thanks for the neat trick

Thanks for the neat trick. It always makes photography fun when you can play and get new results. I’m going to try it out next time the sun decides to shine. (That should be sometime within the next 3 months out here it the North West; of America that is)

Thanks again and keep them coming.

I was taking some night shots last week and could not figure out why I was getting this star effect on some shots of the same scene and not others.

I honestly had no clue it was because of the aperture size. Now I know what causes it I can plan on using it or avoiding it.

Thank you for this.

nice effect. one trick i know of further enhancing this effect in-camera (not post process), you can get some strainers or collanders and put it over your lens... two layers means more star-tails... if that makes any sense...

Is there any danger in these techniques? Like blowing out your sensors? (Or possibly your eyesight!)

I used to play around a lot with "alternate lenses" and things you can do to alter an image. I know it isn't digitally taken (film and paper) but one day I started messing around with things other than a lens on my camera, and though the focus isn't 'grate' this was pointing at a window with a cheese grater taped to the body in place of a lens...
Oh, grate

Don't want to be picky or rude, but f/22 is actually a small aperture and f/5.6 is a large aperture, because they're expressed as fractions and 1/22 is smaller than 1/5. Just for future reference

This is a cool effect that can be used at night too. I didn't exactly realise that the aperture was the variable, but I had noticed the effect. Cheers for the info!

I m fully aware of that that, and thanks for pointing out that it also works during night shots, forgot to mentionen that. It pretty much works on any "brght" light so to speak!

Thanks for sharing Alex. You know I was just wodnering the other day how I could improve the appearance of the suns in the sunset shots I've been trying to take. You've given me the answer!! I'll try that next time.
Oh, please don't take offence when people don't respond to your threads. I know it is exciting to share and I also get excited to read others' responses. But, sometimes people just read and learn, but don't feel like sharing. I do that too sometimes. I think that is why forums are such useful places to be part of. You can share and learn at the same time. Cheer up and please keep sharing!!
