Default Macro without a macro lens :)

hi all, I'm posting here after a long time. I just want to share a usual trick with you all. I've taken these macro shots using a EF 50 mm f/1.8 II lens on a Canon EOS 500D body. I detached the lens & reversed it holding in my hand. It gives very shallow depth of field & for focusing, you have to move slightly backwards & forwards.

For clear clicks, I prefer better sunlight & a steady set of hands. And ya, One more thing to take care that you have to protect your camera body as well as the lens from the dust. So I'l suggest you not to try this outdoors on a windy & dusty day to save your precious camera & the lens. Same thing I've tried with my 18-55 mm kit lens & this lens is also a master piece to have macro shots while in a reverse position.

These are some of the tons of clicks I've got..!! Hope you like them..!!

Nifty fifty Magic..

(P.S. Some of my friends have tried this technique with Nikon equipments but they showed "Lens Error", so I don't have a clue what this technique has to offer to Nikonians )

Enjoy clicking & be careful from DUST..!!

reverse adapters are only a few dollars, would at least help with the dust and steady hands.

Pretty cool for just holding them together!

I'm impressed that you were able to keep it nice and steady, holding it in your hand! Nice shots!

Lovely shots. This is something I want to try this winter along with focus stacking. Very well done and thanks for sharing.

beautiful shots. I just recently purchased a reverse mount but haven't had a chance to try it out. These shot will inspire me to have a go.

These are awesome!! I don't have a macro lens either, and none of my macros turn out this good. Great job!!

If you want to get more DOF you can put the lens on the normal way and then set your aperture to what you want and then hold in the dept of field preview button, while holding it in unscrew the lens from the camera. Some people say this may not be safe but i've done it quite a few times but do this at your own risk. I'm not sure if this works for Nikon though, i use Canon...

You can also buy cheap extension tubes that has no AF or contact points which will allow you to get macro shots without turning your lens backwards...
