Default High ISO on Sunny days

The high ISO setting is not just for low light shots !!

I wanted to get a sharp image of the runners as the crossed the finish line at a local track meet, so I need a high shutter speed 1/1600 second. I also wanted all the runners in focus so a small aperture of f11. Now to get both I had to crank the ISO up to 1000.

I think the shot came out fine with little grain for such a high ISO

the noise doesnt seem that bad,
it can totally be cleaned up easily.
Good Idea, i think i'll try this at the next meet.

im not sure but did you really need 1/1600
as far as i know even the wings of a helicopter become iced by that shutterspeed... though i have no expierience to tell if i am right so..; just asking.

but ofcourse you were right with your tread!
high iso can come in handy. though my 400D only goes to 1600 (no mid-levels... 100 200 400 800 1600)

Great idea thanks for the tip - don't think I would have thought of trying that. Just goes to show you have to think outside the box.

Great tip! I have to learn how to use my ISO... I haven't played around with it too much.

Though it doesn't look like you needed a photo finish

I noticed you had done that when you posted that in the share your shots section. Thanks for posting it here as a technique for the benefit of others.

Again, the photo looks great. I've got to remember to do that next time I'm in bright sunlight.

This is great, it's almost surreal because you mostly tend to see these action picture either with motion blur or low DOF. I'll have to keep this in mind in the future!
