Question My 1st photos with Canon EOS 1000D

Hi All

I just bought my Canon EOS 1000D & took my first photos with it. I know i have made a lot of mistakes because the photos are not the same like the way i wanted them to be.

May i request everybody on the forum to help me with the mistakes & solution to it so that i can implement the same & try & take better photos?

Thank you everyone in advance.

Hi Deb,

Gratz on your new cam. =) . I believe this should belong to the critique section, but never the less ...

I'm no pro, but one thing I mainly noticed with all the pics was that the subject in most pics were either out of focus or blurred. Since most pics seem to be taken in low light, I suggest you use a tripod (or just place it steadily on the table) or crank up the ISO a bit so you can avoid the image blurs.

And for the out of focus problem, well, you'll need to ensure the cam has focussed the image successfully (half pressed shutter release button) and only then go through with the pic. Another reason the camera is unable to focus the subject is probably because of low light. So, playing with the shutter speed/ISO should help there.

Hope this helps. ^^

Hi

Thank you for your reply. My mistake as i am new to the forum & don't know where to post my photos & rectify the pointed mistakes. I will submit it to the Critique section from now on.

Yes, i understood this simple fact that the pictures were blurred as camera shake is a concern for me. I am planning to get a tripod for myself, but i would still want my hands to become steady while taking pics.

The out of focus happened because i wasn't aware of the fact that i can actually put the lens in Auto Focus in AV/TV mode as well. I thought that its only for AUTO mode & rest all the modes needs the focus to be set manually. But i hope i will be able to take more focused pics with the AF ON on the lens.

Thank you once again for your reply. Much appreciated. Please keep on showing me the mistakes so that i can learn from them.

Hi Deb. Love the composure of the shots.
You were right on the AF, it runs no matter which mode you're on, if it's switched to on. The out of focused diamond doesn't surprise me, macros are a little tricky on DOF, depth of field, usually needing a few clicks to higher number on fstops.
http://digital-photography-school.co...ngth-45-mm.jpg

What concerns me is the tower being completely out of focus, even looking upperwards, there is no clear focal point, which would indicate a wrong fstop issue or focus issue in the lens or camera.
Try this, put the fstop on about 20 or so, Lens AF on, and when you get a chance, take a shot during the day of a road or sidewalk of an object placed out about 5 or 10 feet.
If the image is clear, looking at it after the shot, without changing that distance, does the object on the sidewalk look clear thru the viewfinder? What this does is make sure the viewfinder is seeing the same focus, that the processor in the camera is seeing and saying is focused.

If your still having issues, pop the lens off, handling carefully without fingering the glass and but the body cap back on the camera to keep dust out, while you inspect thoroughly the lens. Five or ten minutes can impart alot of dust onto the cmos sensor, so you want to avoid leaving it "open". It can be rather electrolytically charged and tends to draw the dust to it.

Holding it up backwards, looking thru the big end towards a light source, a window, a lamp bulb, something a little bright, make sure you don't see any fog or haze in it. If it doesn't look clear, than it's probably a lens issue. If it looks clear, reinstall it, anything other than this or a focusing issue, I'm not sure.

Sometimes Cameras has focusing issues, they either focus short or long with different lenses, even new ones, not the precise point the processor says should be focused. Sometimes even new lenses have to be sent back to the manufacture to correct this.

I hope I was helpful and let us know how this pans out. Good luck.

HI Spookie

Thank you so much for your response. I will definitely try the steps which you mentioned to check whether the viewfinder is seeing the same view like the lens is. Although i remember of taking normal photos in daylight in AUTO mode(just standard photos) & they looked OK to me.

I will try & improve on the DOF & Out of Focus thing. Will post few more photos & would request you to kindly look & comment into them as well.

Dont know why clicking on the link led you to the post. It works for me properly.

All in all, thank you guys for our amazing support & comments. No doubt, why people recommend this website above any other websites...

Love DPS...
