Default water photography help

Hi...
i'm a student and is going to do a project which involves taking photographs of water, perhaps water droplets and waterfalls. I would like to know more on how to do so. Can someone please help me with providing tutorials perhaps, or just tell me techniques i might use and equipment i might need to get.
I only have the 18-55 kit lens, and a nikon off-camera flash.

I would like to know more on how to take such photos. Thanks

You need a CPL (Circular Polarizing Filter) to cut through the reflections of the water. If you want a long, flowing waterfall, get a ND filter.

Depends what you are after in the shots. Anyone can take pictures of water, it just depends how artsy you want to make it.

I would put the camera on shutter priority mode and fire off the same shot adjusting the shutter each time. You'll see what effect you like.

The silky effect is achieved by long exposures. Try a sec or so, it it's overexposed you can try a faster shutter speed. Waiting till the sun has set helps if it's overexosed...

The neutral density filter would be better for geting the silky water because it blocks out a certain amount of light depending on how many stops/what density you get. This allows you to slow your shutterspeed without over exposing and thus blur the water making it look silky. A CPL will block out some light usually about a stop or so, but it probably won't be as even. I've not tried it though, one of the expert please correct me if I'm wrong.

Default Mini Tutorial

I can offer a tutorial on how to get pretty good droplet shots

Posted it in Digital Photography Technique/Tutorials:

For a more natural look, you could just leave out the color and take the same technique outdoors.

Have fun!

Yes,looks great!
Remember going to f18 will really give you a longer exposure even on a sunny day,and it may be enough, the trick is to avoid highlights with no detail, some days its harder than others when going for a certain look.keep experimenting.looking good.
