Default Melt the candle in dark - different angle

This was taken way back in Oct 2010 but I loved the way it turned out. So thought of sharing the trick (though nothing special or tricky but still wanted to share).

"I'll Melt away just to give you light... I'll fade away so that you may stand Right." this was an interpretation of my picture from one of my friend - Vinita Bhattacharjee in FB

I used Nikon D80 with kit lens 18-135mm at night.
1. I placed a white paper on a side table
2. I put some birthday candles (small) randomly
3. I had my camera on tripod facing the table
4. I placed the camera on same level as the table
5. Set exposure to 1/45s, aperture f/5.6, zoomed to 135 (your choice), no flash, ISO 800 (can be little less), Auto focus on the center candle
6. Switched off the light
8. Lighted the middle candle with match stick
9. run to the camera to press the release button (you have to be really quick otherwise the paper will burn)
10. again be quick to blow the candle
Make sure that you have a glass of WATER in case of fire.

EXIF:
Camera: Nikon D80 ~18-135mm
Exposure: 1/45s
Aperture: F/5.6
ISO: 800
Focal Length: 135mm

Did some PP on Photoshop. Just played with exposure.

I guess I could have used lower ISO to minimize the grain.. otherwise, I love this picture.
Hope you will like it too and try yourself. Your valuable comments or criticism is welcome
Happy shooting!!

Thanks for sharing your set up. I really like this pic, a little too centred but I really like the idea.
Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the appreciation You are right, it is too centered, and I should have composed it before posting.. but anyway, sometime we should try opposite the rule

Here is the other version of the same picture. Let me know if this looks better than the original?

That is a very cool trick! I like the second picture better. It draws the eye more, but they are both great.
