Default high sync speed

i love this technique, it lets you get the shots you want very close to straight out the camera! as you can see the subject is lit fairly well, and so is the background. what is high sync speed you ask? well as you know with most all strobes(flashes) your camera's shutter is slowed to 1/200 of a second or some cases 1/250 second. because of the second curtain. anyway, high sync speed lets you go faster with your shutter! but it has to be a dedicated flash, ex: canon 430ex, or most of the new canon strobes, and the same with nikon, although i am not familiar which ones do and don't.

so in this shot i used tokina 11mm-16mm 2.8 on a canon 40d, with a 430ex on a camera shoe cord stretched to the side. you can buy the camera shoe cord on ebay for not very much, i think the canon is like 90 bucks i paid 20 for mine, and you know it works just as good! they also have long ones which i'm thinking about buying one of those. this shot is at f4 - 1/1000 - iso 200 - 15mm.

all i did in photochop was unsharp mask about 60%, then i used nik software(which is a plug in for photochop) the filter darken/lighten just to kill the flash on the ground in front of the subject.

now as far as composing the shot as i said i used an 11-16mm which is a wide lens, because i wanted alot of sky and setting sun, i could have cropped better but this is staight out of the camera, i will crop later to get it dialed in, i just wanted to show high sync speed.

anyway, thanks for looking! also this works extremely weel in bright sunlight!
keep shooting!
