Default Long Exposure - 10 stop filters

Hi,

I've posted on here before about Long exposures, and they were taken straight at dusk, for 30s. HArd to do during the day without a filter, so I treated myself to a ND110 filter. Massive fun. You need to compose the shot, screw on the filter, and set the camera to bulb if you want over 30 secs.
A tripod is essential, and anything over 30s you may need a remote depending on your camera. Fantastic fun, and powerful shots. (Some of these I added a CP too as well)

Thanks Sebey.
Got mine on Amazon I think - B+W ND110. for a 77mm filter it was around £70 ($100)
I have a d90, and the £12 remote is essential if you use BULB settings.

is there much difference between a

ND400
ND1000
and this 110

I can't figure out the numbers or does it just depend on the brand being used?

@ jamesev

I think the numbers have got to do with the amount of stops the filter cuts the light down by.

@ Peely22

Excellent shots. Got a B+W 10stop recently and I`m really enjoying learning how to use it.

Those are very good. If I had a fave it would be 3 I think...

Nice stuff, I have the 9 stop (ND400) filter and use it from time to time. I have gotten some very fun pictures with it. A filter and slow shutter photography can open a whole new world to the average photographer.

Having looked into this it appears to be brand naming convention

ND110 is B+W - 10 stop
ND 400 is Hoya - 9 stop

Yes, you are absolutely right. SEems to be a brand thing.

B+W ND110 is a 10 stop (although some argue 11) filter.
Lee's Big Stopper will do the same job.

The downside is if you want to stack them for exaggerated effects, be careful stacking the ring ones. I spent an absolute age trying to separate my polariser from my nd110.
