My daughter was in a dark room working on a laptop. I thought that it would make a good pic if I could get it right. Her face was about the only thing lit in the whole room and looked pretty cool. I tried several times to capture what I envisioned for the shot but never got anything that looked very good.

I'm new to photography and don't do any post processing except what windows photo viewer will allow (which isn't much). This is all I could come up with.

So here is a challenge. Show me how to take a shot like this that looks good. I'd like to have one and my daughter wants one. Thanks!

not sure what you mean by a shot that looks good.. are you just trying to get her face lit up and nothing else?? if so.. I would say put a light on the floor.. or on her lap .. even though it will be brighter than the laptop light it will give you more room to play with on your shutter speed.. I'm assuming that you are using a "kit" lens so f/4.5 is probably about as low as you can go.. i'd also have her wear a black shirt with no writing on it..
