Default First Effort @ Star Trails

Star Trails

As Seen At: Flickr: MrD5000's Photostream

Freezing night and i just about managed a fifteen minute shot, which for my first effort appears pretty good?

I took a smaller timed shot just to get an idea of where the lens was actually framed as it was pitch black. Once i felt that i had enough foreground in i then hit the bulb setting and headed back to the car, put the heater on full blast and relaxed!....

Any advice and comments would be most welome and i an going to give it another go using a longer exposure to see what the result woul be.

Hello Brit, nice shot . If we leave the gear out in the open for 15 - 30 mins...would the camera/ lens wud get affected due to cold?...and is it necessary that there should be no / less light where we place the gear?...kindly advice.

Select M (manual) on the top dial then go to your shutter setting...turn the shutter speed all the way down...ie 1/250 then into seconds then finally bulb.....It only mentioned "bulb" in my instructions.....just keep turning the wheel.

I would assume you close the aperture down quite a ways for this? just because the shutter is open for so long, and the stars move so slowly, I am guessing around 20 or so?
