Default Candle In The Darkness

We had a power failure last night, and I decided to use it to my favor. I chose a candle, put my camera on a tripod and played with the settings for about half an hour. Suprisingly, this picture was one of the first I took and it's my favorite of the bunch. This is completely unedited or post-processed (not quite sure what the correct term is) and is straight off the camera.

Camera: Canon 450D
Focal Length: 39mm
Shutter Speed: 1/60
Aperture: f5
ISO: 800

I liked this shot. I went home last night, got out the tripod and camera and a couple of candles. Darn!!! No Matches.

I realized I haven't had a match or lighter since I quit smoking 2 years ago. I'll remedy that this weekend.

Get yourself one of those long bic lighters that are used for gas grills. I am always burning candles.

Lovely shot. Patience really pays off.

Default photographing christmas lights in the dark with a child

I would like to take a picture with my 3 year old daughter sitting among the lights - in the dark. I am a total newbie and have no idea how to accomplish this. I have a Nikon D60 with the kit lens 18-55. What would you suggest?
Thanks!

C'mon Mike150, that's no reason to start smoking again!
