I have a question for you about the scene you are photographing, how saturated was the night sky you were photographing with stars? I want to try to do some star trails photography but I feel like my night sky doesn't have enough stars.

Another note, if you don't have a remote shutter but have a laptop you can use Canon's remote shooting software to shoot a sequence of images like this as well
