Default Tea with a twist...

I had an idea for a splash shot, with a twist:

This is actually a stream of coloured water shooting up into the cup, and then the shot is inverted. This gives you a 'crown' of drops around the rim of the cup and the slightly surreal splash effect.

ISO 100, f/7.1, 1/250th shutter on my 7D and 60mm Macro, with a three-strobe light setup (two on the background and one slightly off-axis on the camera).

Kind of looks like the cup is melting then floating away. It is certainly a very interesting shot.

However, it would look better if you could shop the hand off.

I thought about that too, and even took a crack at it, but I preferred it as is. I'm not great with the 'shop though. If anyone wants to take a crack at it, be my guest! I'd like to see the results...

Well, I had a go:

cupedit

Just don't look too closely lol. I think if you were to reshoot, but maybe use some kind of easily shopped out device to hold the cup upside down, then there would be a better result.

But I do really like the effects you are getting by shooting the water upwards. Be nice to see more from you using the technique.

Very nice! I thought I'd prefer the photo with the hand until I saw the version with the hand cropped out - yep, it's an improvement. Still, what a great way to take an interesting photo.

Thanks Laurie

I have an idea to reshoot this with that in mind, so I'll post here when I have time to set up the reshoot.

Take a shot of the cup alone then just clone the handle over the other.

I actually, liked it better with the hand in it. Gave me more of a feel for the cup being upright and the tea going straight up. But, that's just me...

Personally prefer the original shot with the hand.
