just water drops

a simple fountain caught my eye while walking out of the auditorium after my daughter's school anniversary function. as I was carrying my camera gear (Nikon D90, Nikkor 70-300mm, Nikkor 50mm/1.8D, Sigma 28-70mm/2.8 and Nikon 18-55mm VR), I decided to give it a try. My wife and daughter waited patiently by the car. I went for my 70-300mm zoom and used the flash to freeze action. As the fountain was lit from other sides, the yellow streaks were possible. The camera was hand-held while shooting this photo.

Wow thats a nice picture. I am very new to photography (only got my Nikon d3000 camera a day or two a go) and i have not yet tried anything like this. Has anyone got any tips or even just a real novice walkthrough of what settings i need to take pictures like this?
