Ah, excellent writeup. I tried unsuccessfully using my camera stopped down as much as possible and then using a pinhole cover. Did the sunglasses thing, etc. I see that the multiple filters really made all the difference.
Nicely shot!

Oh!!! OK ... Nice combination of filters!!!!! Very sharp image!!!!!!
I'm a newbie , I had my DSRL for about 2 and a months and before this everything was with my cellphone... I didn't have money for filters , so had to come up with something quickly that morning ... Finally found out that Microsoft is not completely useless ... My pics are in Facebook with a self explanation so you can laugh... LoL!! Of course , not as sharp as this one , but it kind of worked. Here is the Link if you would like to take a look. Marcel Alexandre's Photos - Eclipse 2009 | Facebook Thank you very much!!!!! |

try using a welders hood , when using this type of light filter place your lens against the glass , you will be able to see the sun flares and a slight aurora around the sun it's self

partial eclipse at PSF Marina by *JobobArikan on deviantART
Here is a link to a partial eclipse taken with leica M3, 21 Super angulon F22 1/1000 second kodachrome 64 no filtration just stopped all the way down and asa 64 slow kodachrome at the Marina Gate Presidio San Francisco in mid 80s The shot was very underexposed so I manipulated it and turned it into a gif animation Last edited by jobob arikan; 08-08-2009 at 09:09 PM.
