if your camera has live view that would be a great way to save your eyesight

Thanks all! Surprised to see this one pop up again on the main blog!

Yes, I now have a camera with LiveView, so would be more inclined to use it. Also have another ND filter for the next eclipse that rolls around.

I'd be careful here you don't damage your imager doing this. There are warnings in my camera manual about this.

Other materials you might try are underexposed colour slide film or their leaders. I was also going to suggest two polarizers at right angles.
