Wow....dont think I've seen that much dirt on a sensor.

I shot an air show a while back, but they were all slow moving planes like in your last shot.

I'd love to get a chance to shoot the Blue Angles. You didn't do bad.

Wow pretty dirty lens, but it does kind of make a few of the photos look cool.

I'm surprised as to why you used an aperture of f/32??

1/60s for a fast moving plane is a challenge to say the least!

I'm thinking dropping the Aperture to something closer to f/16 (or even f/8) would have allowed for a much faster shutter speed, which in turn would have helped with sharpness.

Good job nonetheless!

Now go clean that sensor!!

We had a Blue Angels air show here in Annapolis a few weeks back. Every time they were really close I was too caught up with running my mouth to somebody to catch a good pic. Oh well, maybe next year =(

The compositions are very good, and my favourite is actually the first one (although its a bit over exposed, as the sky is just white and you lose the canopy glass edging to the sky, if you shot in RAW you maybe able to claw that back a little bit.... golden rule though: its better to under expose a touch than over expose....), dont worry too much about the dirt, you can clone them out in PS if needed.

as with what everyone else has said: its the shutter speed, the shutter speed at 300mm is waaaaaaayy to slow, i would agree that f32 was a bit excessive, maybe F16 and personally i would have shot at iso 200 just to give you that little bit faster shutter, the fastest shutter speed you can get for non prop planes the better... which doesnt help to much with the final two, i know. but prop planes are the hardest to shoot to get the sweet spot of enough sharpness as well as a blurred prop (alot of people at my camera club go for sharpness and PS a blurred prop)

but at the end of the day its all practice and the more you shoot the better youll get...

and your off to a good start

Hi,

I shot my first airshow a week or so ago here in the UK at Cosford. I hired a Nikon AF-S 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 G IF-ED VR Lens to shoot with. These jets are so fast though. I found myself needing a shutter speed of 1/1000 just to freeze them. They are pretty impressive though.

Thanks for sharing,
