I did it finally this past weekend and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. The bottom line is, it is possible with more than one person... NOW I want to do a group shot with this techniquet!!

This is the first montage I used 8 photos in! And I think I like it more, but not sure why. All I had to do was get more severe in the angles I tilted each shot so that you can see the edges of all 8 (though the 8th one here is almost hidden).
I hope you like it!

You can find the large here:

I'll upload the original soon-ish

Thanks for reminding me! I thought about this a few times over the last couple of weeks, just keep forgetting to try it out in my shoots! I like how it worked out too. I imagine a group shot would be much more interesting, but looking at this and thinking about it, the next question/assignment I have for you is...

...have you tried a landscape version? with the platform going left-right as opposed to top to bottom?

Why did you settle on a white background rather than black, out of curiosity?

Hmm.. no, haven't tried a landscape. I'm not really into landscapes, but I can try it.. hmm.. now I'm interested!

As for the white background. I wanted the edges of all the images to show clearly, and sometimes, with black backgrounds they would get lost. That's the main reason. Partly the whole "getting lost" in the background thing is my fault as I like a bit of vignetting in all the shots. If I take a version that has a very white/light background, I'll try it on black..

Thanks!

I guess my curiosity as far as landscape orientation goes came from your thought on a large group picture... then i got thinking about some poses i use with couples where they're laying on the ground. I think the only thing to be careful of would be splitting faces in half, and the bigger the group, the more faces to try and not split if you know what i mean...

..i hear you on the background colour, i know people have different predilections for that kind of thing, just curious as to why you chose it. I suppose it would largely depend on the overall tone of the image as a whole. I usually try to shoot dark rather than bright, so while a white bed would be the obvious choice it kind of goes against the grain of the tone i want to convey.

sorry to babble, it's just a really fascinating thought to me on how to further this particular paradigm!

very neatly done. I like how the feet are kept at the proper angle and level..so they don't look like ghosts!
