This effect was my "No 1 Thing To learn" to do on my own once I got my 1st SLR.
One thing I have to say, is that UV filter is a must for someone like me, that shoots during sunny days and not early in the morning or later in the evening. ![]() Also, tripod is a double MUST...one thing I still can't get a hang on, so don't always have it with me. Do have to admit, looks pretty funny from aside, when I'm trying to balance on the edge of the slippery rock with branches poking my behind and annoying bugs buzzing in my ear...Anyway... Here are the setting I've used for this particular example: Model: Canon EOS REBEL T1i Shutter Speed: 0.59 sec Aperture: F/22.0 Focal Length: 55 mm ISO Speed: 400 Date Taken: May 23, 2010, 3:47:13 PM Lens: EF-S55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS Color Edits: CS4 & Picasa ![]() Hope you find this helpful.

Thank you!
And yes, I was pleasantly surprised at the turn out as well.

Nice, but why did you shoot at ISO 400? If you dropped it to whatever your camera minimum is you would have been able to slow the shutter even more and get more of a silky effect. IF you like taking this type of shot (I do!) then you should invest in a neutral density filter - which will let you take really long exposures during the day.

I'm actually waiting for my filter, ordered it right after this shoot ![]() And to tell you the truth, I don't remember which program I used for this image. I believe it was shutter speed priority, not fully manual and that's why ISO is at 400 (camera decided to put it at that). Once I get the filter I will experiment with the lowest ISO (i think its 80 on my camera). also love this type of shots a lot.

This is a great shot. I really like how the green in the moss stands out. I also like that it's not too milky so you can still see the current patterns which add texture. Well done.

But do be careful with how much light gets into the shot, because longer exposures let more light in. So while I was playing with the settings and the time, there were a lot of shots with plain white in them due to the bright light. The UV filter and ND filter should help that. Can't wait to test them out. I used wide lens with no zoom for a whole river bank, but for this particular shot I used a zoom to get just a particular part of the river. Hope it helps a little.
