Default My First Kite

This is my first post here. I welcome all constructive feedback, no need to be gentle but don't be cruel for cruel sake :-)

This is a picture of my daughter flying her first kite ever near Lake Chelan, WA. I tried to capture both her and the kite up in the air. I tried something new with my shots, I layed on the ground at her feet and used a focal length of 18mm to capture the distance between her and the kite. I used an apeture priority to control the depth of field. I seemed to have not been paying attention to my settings since I had set it to f/5 and it should have been more like f/11 to get a clean image of the kite as well, which was my original goal. I shot this with my Canon Rebel XTi and the 18-55mm EF-S kit lens. I used Light Room 2 to increase the Greens and Blues a bit because my Rebel always seems to have flat colors in RAW.

I really love the framing on this picture and the fact I was able to capture the distance of the kite. I do wish I would have been paying attention to my apeture and been able to get the kite in focus as well.

It is still a good photo of an event to be remembered. I love the angle

Nice, could have been better if you would have shifted slightly towards the right.
The thread would be in a line , you could have avoided the sun's glare and your daughter would be more centered.

thank you for the comments. @Big Cat, yeah you are right about the kite string, it would have been nicer if it was one line. I am actually a big fan of lens flare, before I had a camera and was using photoshop 3, the first thing i would do is lens flare something

I happen to know this little girl (and in the interest of full disclosure, the poster as well) and I'm impressed that he was able to get a shot of her at all. She's a bit of a busy body, at least while I'm around. I would have expected that she moved too fast to get a shot from a laying down position.

Nice photo! The angle is very good to show the girl and kite same time.

Nice angle but rule-of-thirds would have helped here by aligning the kite at a right side where the sky is seen vacant.

When I first saw the picture, this is exactly what came to my mind, would have loved the kite in the focus as well. That said, great shot and nice angle.

I agree. My eye expected to see the kite in focus. However, what you have isn't bad in the least. If it was me, I would probably take a photo with each in focus and combine them.
