Kite Surfer

This photograph was taken at Pettycur Bay, Kinghorn, Fife. I have a holiday home over looking the River Forth with a grand view of the Forth Bridges. Most weekends the bay is alive with kite surfers. But I wanted a shot of those crazy guys with a difference. As I was wondering what to do it dawned on me. Kite surfers are a plenty as are the birds. Combine the two. I first took a shot of the surfer and a few seconds later I grabbed the shots of the bird using the A1 servo mode of the Canon 5D. Both shots had to be within seconds of one another. That reduced the problem of different light sources. It can at times stick out like a sore thumb. That took about an hour and some 70 or 80 shots before I pulled it off. The difference in the light source is minimul and I think I made not a bad job of it. The shot of the surfer is more or less a straight auto from RAW and the bird was cut out in Photoshop and pasted in as shown above. Levels were adjusted seperate and then when the image was flatened the over all levels were readjusted. What I liked about the result was this. If you were looking down at the time the bird passed that is exactly what you would have seen. Alas I did not have 2 million years to wait. The camera used was a Canon 5D and the lens was a 170- 500mm Sigma. I like mucking about with cuts outs using photoshop and the links below show some I have done in the past. Only the imagination limits.
