Default Clinging on for Dear Life

The things we do to get a shot! This may look quite an ordinary shot taken from the bank of this stream. Oh no! I had to climb down a steep rock face to get to the water's edge and once there all there was to perch on were some dead reeds. I'm no youngster. To avoid overhanging branches I had to balance on a very slippery rock, hold on to an overhanging branch, focus and then take the shot with the other hand. After this, I had to climb back up the rock face to the path I had been on when I first caught a glimpse of this waterfall. Hope you all think it was worth it.

It's beautiful! What shutter speed and aperture did you use? The water is so nice and silky.

Thanks Susan for your kind comments.

I was using my new Canon 5d mk2 and EF24-70mm 2.8L USM lens. 1/10th sec @ F22 ISO 100 and camera set at aperture priority.

Canon EOS 5d mk2. Lens EF28-70mm 2.8L USM 1/10th sec @ F22 ISO 100 Aperture Priority. I did sharpen the two main rocks with Pixel Genius Sharpener Pro (The best there is in my opinion)

I think it was definitely worth it! Very nice photograph. Glad you didn't slip and fall in the water! Wet gear wouldn't have been worth it, lol.

Great photo!

Newbie questions:

1- Why didnt use Manual Mode or Time Priotity? since you didn't want to freeze the action of streaming water? You adjusted the aperture to f/22 to get a sharp shot of the whole scene.

2- You only used a PS to sharpen the rocks? Do you recommend using PS to adjust photos?

Thank you and sorry for the dumb questions

Wow, amazing shot.

As a newbie I've always thought shots like this would need long exposure e.g seconds (to get such softness in the water). I was amazed to see that it was a 1/10th. I assume that the river was fast running?

May be I need to just get to a river and take multiple shots at differing speeds to truly understand.

Thanks

Pete
