Default How i got Panning shots

Take a ride.... Panning shot

It was a bright Morning and I was doing Street photography, I saw vehicles moving and i just taught of trying panning of the vehicles.
I used Canon Rebel XTI with 18-55mm kit lens. I started to move the camera with the subject (vehicles) parallely in the same speed and in the same direction, with slow shutter speed somewhere 1/8 sec to 1/20 sec. I also set my camera to continues shoot mode. Shutter speed can be varied according to the speed of the subject (vehicles) movement.
I took couple of attempts to get this right. The best way to get things is to practice and play with the shutter speeds.

A tripod or a monopod can also be used.

Hope this will be useful.

I'm very impressed by this, as my panning is rubbish.

That is nice. I tried this, but mine didn't turn out near as clean. Did you use a tripod?

Panning shots are definitely not easy, but it's great when you get the desired results. You definitely got some great movement in that shot. I've been practicing my panning shots as well. Here is one that I took fairly recently. I took a bit of a different approach. Rather than panning horizontally, I decided to move with the subject (my wife) as we were walking through a street market in Bali. The panning effect is definitely more subtle. I took about 4 or 5 shots before I got it right. The photo was taken with a Digilux 3, 14-50 kit lens, shutter priority 1/5 sec. Minor PP in LR2 to desaturate the color and give it a more aged/dingy look.

Bali Market

P.S. This is my first picture post.

This is a lucky panning shot that I took a while ago.

I spotted the bird quite late, tried to track it and was able to shoot just one frame. Even though I did not track the motion quite right, the result is still one of my favorite shots.
