I love that apple drop photo. Did you use an auxiliary lens? And, congrats on the Kodak photo of the day honor!

Thanks everyone for the advice. I tried this some more on the weekend...took about 300 pics and not one worked
I think i'm just gonna take a break and wait till i get a macro lens...the distance must be my problem. I had oodles and oodles of light and still every pic was blurry. I took your advice Snapdragon and took the pics at an exposure time of anywhere between 1/1000 sec to 1/1600 sec. and an ISO of 200. Its so addicting tho...i dunno if i can't stop trying...LOL.

oooh ok...you twisted my arm....lol.....i'll keep trying. I'll try it with the flash. I dunno what they are called but i used a "working on cars" light thingy....lol. Its 2 halogen lights on a pole 500 watts each...not very proffessional but its all i had....haha. So i thought i had enough light....maybe now i had too much?
I used manual focus on some and on some i used the card in the water/autofocus strategy. Both ways were blurry....maybe my timing is off.....i have no idea...guess its best to keep trying!!! P.S. Everyone here is so nice and helpful!!! I've been to other forums (not necessarily photography forums) and if you ask a question or make a mistake posting you get your head ripped off...lol...but not here

Do you have a tripod? Or something else to help keep it steady? If you don't have ImageStabilization, or VibrationReduction, camera shake might be your main culprit.
For that shot, I was in the kitchen. Plate lifted up off the bottom of the sink, white paper behind (splashes weren't big enough to get it wet). Hand holding, with resting both of my arms on the counter to reduce any camera shake, manual focused on the center where I had the water drops, and flash on. The rest was taking 200-300 shots to get 2-3 good ones. I'm sure with more time I could have taken better shots and got the timing of water hitting better, but it's no easy task! |

for falling water drops ,you must always use your flash that is what you need to freez the drop , you will never get it with out the flash if the drop is falling . You do not need the flash for still drops but if they are falling yes you do , so go play in the water LOL but play safe .

It's not the amount of light, it's the duration. You really need flash. Give it a go and be amazed! Practice hitting the shutter as the drop hits, just before and just after, very slight advance or delay till you find the one that works for you. |
