Default Into the Clouds

For this shot, I chose the wide end of my 24-105mm lens so I could give the impression that my subject was actually way higher than she really was. When you are shooting at that kind of focal length, things seem much further away than they really are (kinda like the side mirror of your car)

I lay on the ground and scoped out the best cloud formation in the sky to use as a backdrop. Clouds were critical to making this a unique shot and also to sell the idea that the sky was above her and not just a blue screen. My subject stood on a low wall and jumped over me a few times so I could get a basic focus at the freeze point. Once I was satisfied with the exposure and focus, she jumped over me again for the shot you see above.

She is illuminated by the low lying setting sun which gave a really nice throw on her face. Because it was so intense, it also allowed to choose a superfast shutter speed (1/8000) so I could avoid motion blur, which I didn't want.

I shot in Camera RAW and converted to black and white using a plug-in called SiverEfx pro via Photoshop.
