Wow! Definitely some great shots! I am going to have to get moving and start shooting some more water drops.

Any tips on how to get the "crown" effect, as opposed to the "blob" effect? I really like both looks, but so far have only been able to get the blobs.

I actually have a shot similar to the first one by hlngre23. When I first saw it I wondered how my shot got here.

Pure dumb luck, unfortuantly.

Here's a site that had some different idea on the water drop shots

Default frozen water drops

Everything was covered in water by the time I'd finished doing this! Here's one I got anyway:

It's all mine I promise

Thanks mackenziedawn I think that's one of my favourites too. I've edited it slightly by removing some of the little reflections on the right side of the droplet.

Like the colour of yours Matt. What did you use?

Default Try Cold Cooking oil

I've heard, but haven't tried it out yet, that cold Cooking oil works really well because it's thicker and the effects of the drop move slower. I'm going to have to try this sometime this weekend.

My advice would be: if you like it, try it! The worst that could happen is that you have to delete the pictures that didnt come out good, and recharge the battery. Experiment a lot, and eventually you will get a great picture, and learn lots of stuff on the way!

Definitely a beginner can do it... as long as their camera has manual controls and they generally know how to use these controls. I am in no way advanced... especially considering I'm a teenager in high school who has only been taking photography as a serious hobby for about a year now. Good luck to you!

Like to add this to the examples. Used a plastic dog dish filled with water and a slowly dripping faucet. Messy but fun.
