I call this splash Shimmer , the colours come from a backdrop ,a poster of Fall leaves

If you click on the photo it will take you to an album with a purple splash , I call Vivid ,it gets it's colour from kids foil birthday hats .

All these shots are very good and I tried some myself but it looks like my shots are a bit out of focus. Only a part is in focus and the rest not. How do you poeple do it? Is my f value too big? If I take a value of about f12 then there is not enough light. I use a Sony A300

I tried this out and here is the best one I got so far. Not the best but I am gonna keep trying.

Here is my attempt at this type of shot. I used a blue piece of paper with a black grid, placed behind the dish and bounced my light off of it.
