I had a go at this an my images were not up to par. Out of a million shots only one was suitable to post and unfortunately I'm not at my image computer to post. I will try to post later.

As for the timing, i found that a wireless remote is key. I found that at around 1/250, press the remote button as soon as the droplet leaves the dropper at about 8-10 inches from the bowl.
Anyway, that's my technique, if anyone has something different I would like to know.......

This thread has been very inspirational and I am quite pleased with my efforts and results today. No where near as good as most contributions, but I will certainly fiddle around with this idea again and something I have never done before & great fun !!!

I found a pearlescent decorative bowl we were given for a wedding present, used nd played around with the flash on my D60 and also used to very powerful mountain bike headlights for side lighting (I told you I had fun!)

I spent a hour or so playing around today and it meant I didn't spend a load of money on things I don't really need at the camera shop

This thread is very inspiring. They´re all really beautiful pictures.

I´ve been trying this technique at home, but I wasn´t able to get any upclose images as the ones shown here... How do you place the camera so close to the "splash zone" itself? Aren´t you afraid to get you camera wet in the process?

Regards,

I don't have any painted bowls... but I got paint, so who knows.. maybe I'll have two artworks in one....? (I'm not a very good painter though, lol...)
Maybe you should try diluting some paint with water a bit and take a picture of a paint droplet, that would be awesome, I would do that if I had some paints. Another suggestion- use two different colors and get picture of a paint droplet hitting a pool of the other color of paint.

Here's a shot at 1/60 sec., ISO 100 (DSLR) This should still work with your S5.

I Like this shot .. it looks like a CROWN
