I liked this post sooo much that I tried it myself at home. I dident get quite as nice a shot as that... but its ok I guess. You can see two of them on my blog, entitiled Splashes
I had my camera positioned with a higher elevation because for some reason most of the splash back was always going up too high and getting out of my shot. Maybe I was droping the drop from too high?

Hey guys. I'm new to the forums. I read about how to do the water drop shots and tried adding some food coloring. What do you think?

Love that, ZWincick! I don't know whether the colouring makes a lot of difference though, I think it's the colour of the bowl or background that does it.

I've done my first attempt tonight. I think this is my best (out of 285 shots!!!)

I had a go today, but the results were disasterous.
Firstly I made the mistake of using warm water, (my house is waaay too cold and I didnt fancy putting my hands in a bowl of cold water) but forgot the basic nature of matter going from liquid to a gas.... thus fogging up my lens. Finally decided to add cold water and that sorted the lens fogging problem. Then there came the next problem, how do you focus on something that isnt there? I manually focused it on my finger at the centre of the screen and hoped that this would work. Then came the next problem, I left my tripod 300 miles away in Yorkshire, so I had to use some books to prop up the camera at the right angle and rig it so the camera couldnt fall into the bowl of water, fine.
Now to press the button.... and drop water at the same time....... hang on.. I apreciate that we men arnt renouned for our multitasking abilities, but pressing a shutter button while monitering how much your dripping into a bowl should be easy enough? Well.. It might be for some. After half an hour of fruitless playing about I decided to call it a day. I'll stick to wildlife photography...
