Default When was the last time you hired a photographer?

Just curious. I see a lot of people devoting a lot of time to justifying high prices for photographers, etc., but I wonder how many of us have actually hired someone. I guess I am thinking mainly portrait photographers here, but... if there's another reason you've hired somebody, share that.

I haven't had someone photograph me for a fee since my gown sitting for my first uni graduation 4 years ago. However, I'm flying most of the way across the country in a few months and have contacted my favourite photographer for a session (it is a fortunate coincidence that she lives in the city I was going to visit anyway). I knew being my favourite was going to come with a price, but I choked a bit realizing that a 3 hour lifestyle session with product was going to cost me $1500. Then I laughed at myself because as a photographer I'm supposed to agree with and justify this sort of expense.

Anyway I'll probably do it but then I started wondering when was the last time anyone else ponied up the cash for a professional photographer

Christmas before last... so in 2008. we had all the family together. I really didn't want to setup all my crap and be responsible for it while I had to watch my kids too. I forget what we paid him, but it was for 1 hour of shooting the family in the back yard with all the flowers and crap :>

If I want it done right, I put the camera on tripod and shoot it myself using a pocket wizard to fire the camera. But there could come a day when I'd need have something shot when and if that time comes, I'd certainly pay someone I can trust and knows what they are doing. Most of the times at sporting events, photographers that know one another will take pictures of one another (in action) or sharing moments with each other, just to share and pass the time during a time out or slack time in between innings. We pass those pictures onto to each other for free. Jesus........did I say the f word?

Ah, Jim, I appreciate your unwavering... confidence.

So far this poll is really quite telling.

If I need family portraits that include me, I'll usually just barter with one of my photo buddies. An "I'll shoot you, you shoot me" arrangement. I've found this to be the best way to ensure the cobbler's kids have proper footwear, metaphorically speaking.

I primarily shoot nature and landscapes, though, and will buy prints from other photographers that inspire me. That usually happens a couple of times a year depending on my budget.

When aerial shots are required by helicopter to photograph a prestigious property by the waterfront, around once a month on average.
