october of '82.....my wedding day......since i could take all the portraits i wanted of bill and i....(and did often)....i wasn't going to have a photographer....just pass out disposables.....but, my maid of honor wouldn't have any of that and hired a "friend of a friend".....they weren't great and i rarely look at them.....but, it was a kind guesture on her part......

Thumbs up wedding

Within the last two years we hired the local newspaper photographer, who was also my photography instructor, to photograph our daughter's wedding. He did a great job, was not expensive and just gave us the discs so that we could make our own copies. Great deal.

@hibou so have you decided to go ahead with it? i agree that $1500 would put me off, but if it was someone i particularly admired...

i have been thinking of this very topic recently. always the family photographer, i have very few shots with me in them. the last time we hired a photographer was 4 years ago when my youngest was born. i have shots too which i love from a session when pregnant with my 1st and when baby was 6 weeks old.

i have been thinking of hiring someone to do a family shoot this summer but the photographers that i admire are not necessarily local...and i don't know if i would do a shoot with someone whose work i didn't think was above average...i can do average via tripod all by myself ;-)

I set up the shot and grab the wireless remote and jump into place.
I already paid the guy at the camera store.

I mentioned this in another thread. The only time I ever hired a photographer was for my Wedding day. He didn't turn up. Which is a bit ****.

Didn't pay anything in the end. Just had my familys snapshots to go on.
