Default Ndwbie Annoying Question - Sizing Images for Upload

I'm hoping a patient someone will give me some guidance.

My photos are 3072 pixels on the long side when taken. Photoshop shows them at 72 resolution which I regularly change to 300 for a site I've started at Zazzle. The result is an image averaging 3 - 7 MG. Downsizing to 97.7 kb, even when I size to 600 pixels on the long side, comes nowhere near small enough for DPS.

The automatic sizing on DPS may be the reason there is an artifact (a bar near the top) in the photos uploaded.

Further, we have a dialup ISP with no hope of high speed internet anytime in the foreseeable future, therefore no Flicker, etc. accounts. Is DPS too advanced for my capabilities? Is there a standard way to resize the images for DPS? Does anyone know why the "bar" appears in my images?

Even if posting pictures is not feasible at this time, I can learn a lot from the forums and will soak up as much knowledge as possible. Pictures could come later.

I'm learning by doing and failing, then redoing. It works but takes awhile.

Thank you to anybody who can help!

Carol

If you're using Photoshop, using Save For Web should help you get the appropriate size. However, attachments (for some reason not in the Gallery part of the forum software) do allow you to upload images up to 732.4 KB.

1. Open the image in Photoshop
2. Click / Pull Down on Image, > then Image Size...
3. A window will pop up...
4. In Document Size input > Resolution: 72 (not 300)
5. Input Width in pixels as 740
6. Click OK
7. Double Click on the Magnifying Glass in the Palette Menu.
8. That will be the actual size of the image in ANY monitor.

Cheers!

Yeah Raoul is spot on the mark for my money I would say its the changing of the PPI/DPI to 300 you dont need to change that option that figure is only really usefull for physical print media.

Default Thank you!

I'll try it tonight using the 72 resolution and Save for Web. I appreciate the help (and need it).

Regards,

Carol
