Default Another Ken Rockwell thread

FART I swear I didn't make this up. Mr Rockwell is known in many circles.

I found this on another site I visit and could resist telling someone about it. I searched for Rockwell and FART first and saw nobody had posted it yet.

My imagination runs wild when I read. So, his article proved quite amusing when I read it.

"If you forget to FART first, as most people do, your photos will usually be boring." - Ken Rockwell.

I swear that guy will do anything to get people to read his stuff.

The guy loves to be silly. Read his "about" page, he says as much!

But the FART article actually has some pretty decent advice, especially for newer photographers.

Personally, I appreciate the silliness. There's no need to be so serious that we can't laugh, after all.

Is there anything particular in the article you objected to? I've read it, and except for the fact that he uses take instead of make I think the advice will go much further to helping people improve their photography than much of the technical advice despensed on the internet, including his site. I can even forgive him for using take instead of make, because FART makes a much more memorable mnemonic than FARM.

If you object to Ken's site it would be better to not post links directly to his site. The number and quality of inbound links to a website is the biggest determinant of search engine placement. Creating more links to his site will only ensure his continued position at the top of search engine listings.

I think Ken is great! And funny too! The "SEX" analogy he had was great too! SEX= Simplification & EXlusion. Makes it easier for folks like me to remember!

I never said I objected to it. I was trying to take the Swiss approach. I understand a lot of people have issue with him. Just didn't want to offend anyone.
I still think he'll write anything to get people to read his blog. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. It's just not something that I would want to be known for. He does have a lot of knowledge and does share it mostly for free. He could do the same without being so opinionated and outlandish. I've read many of his articles and he has helped myself and many others (though they may not want to admit it).

I didn't intend to come off like I objected to it. As you said, "I think the advice will go much further to helping people improve their photography than much of the technical advice despensed on the internet." I agree.

Just thought it was a cutesy article with some comedic value

No worries. I probably read more into than was intended. It seems that the people most likely to bring up the subject of Ken Rockwell are people who don't like him. And the criticism that he'll do anything seemed to reinforce that. I disagree that statement. I don't think he'll do anything. He seems to be just a goofy guy, with strong opinions about the craft of photography. He seems to be genuinely trying to help people become better photographers. And even the fact that he ignores most of the criticism about tells me he doesn't deserve much of the reputation he's developed on the internet.

I know. Right? As much negative as I have read about him. I don't think I've ever read him write anything about it.

Except for the acronym, that is the single good article on his website. About bloody time.

When I want to know something about a Nikon or Canon lens or DSLR, I Google the item and add the two words Ken and Rockwell. He may have critics, enemies, and supporters, but I sure get some interesting information from his site. It remains for me to decide what to do with the information.
