I played around with light painting for the first time last week, and I think I'm going to play with it again tonight. My problem, I'm not very creative, I have a hard time thinking of things to "paint". Any ideas?
One idea that I do have is to try to outline my guitar. The last time I tried it did not come out very well, hopefully this time it will be better.

I had this idea (and worked on it for quite a while) -- it's one of my favorites: The Council of Dave. The main idea is, try hilighting yourself, or parts of yourself, in various positions. Maybe two feet walking along with only a head, etc.
One cool thing to remember, is -- if it's dark enough, you can have a very long exposure, and move yourself within it, without anything showing up. You will only show up if you paint yourself. The possibilities are endless.

Heh, very nice!
Since my housemate has been playing Jack Black's "Brutal Legend", I can't help but see something like that in your photo...

If you have younger kids, light painting is also a great way to keep them entertained. My two were absolutely enthralled with it and came up with very creative ideas of their own. Kids toys frequently have small LED lights in various colors that work very well for this. They also have small bouncy balls and yoyos that have flashing lights that work well.
My 6 year old used to give me a hard time about how much time I spend playing with the camera and asking her to pose (even though she is quite a ham in front of the camera). I tried light painting with them the other night, and she comes up to me and says "Daddy, I now love how much time you spend with your camera! It is not a problem for me any more" |

I have a blog post about light painting with several of the images I took that night. Check it out.
@ Photostudent - Finding something fun you can do with your kids is always great. Keep it up ![]() @ Carl Yeomans - Thank you for the video. I think those women are ugly with their makeup and hair like that, but the light painting is cool.
