Question Photography journals notebooks

Hi all:

I have been looking thru Flickr and checking out the "Whats in your camera bag" group and I have noticed that a lot of people include moleskin notebooks in their bags. I was just wondering if any of you use notebooks and what exactly you use them for.

I was thinking about getting a small journal myself to write things down. I didn't know that photogs had a habit of keeping them on hand. I imagine the notebook would be to write down exactly where they are, where they looked, the surroundings, how they felt, etc. If I kept a notebook, this is what I would write down, but I may be wrong in thinking this is what the group members record in their journals. If you get an answer from any of them, can you write down their responses?

I use them all the time (in fact for the last 30 years). They are good to have to take notes on various subjects, locations and time of day of shoots. Or just to jot something down that interest you to take a photograph. Besides, with all those notes laying around, it'll help you when you decide to produce a book. You know, ISO settings, shutter speeds, f-stops angles of photography, flash setting output, direction of lights. Look at Joe McNally.......
how do you think he came up with enough info for his Hot Shoes Diaries book on lighting, as well as Dave Hobby's Strobist website. Taking notes are good.
