Default Flash Batteries

Specifically the regular AA size. Based on your experience, what's best on a modern flash? Rechargables or single use? Thanks.

Rechargeables, but get decent ones with a good current capacity. I went for Energizer NiMH 2500mAh and they work well. If you can get a higher mAh then do, as that's what cuts the recycle time.

I carry two sets of these along with a set of Duracell standard batteries, just in case.

Rechargeable by far. Eneloop are the best I've ever used.

Hmm, I generally get better performance from HD Alkalines, but I use Eneloop as I just can't swallow the recurring expense and waste.
